[Mine Swept]

One summer at work I just got hooked on Minesweeper. However, I thought the Windows version was kind of ugly, not to mention that some of the user interface controls were terrible (press BOTH mouse buttons to auto-click on all tiles around one already revealed???). So I poked around the Internet for a decent Minesweeper version for Mac OS X and really didn't find any that were to my liking. So I set about creating my own version with the following feature set:
  • Control-click, command-click OR right-click to flag mines.
  • Uses double-click action to reveal the neighbors of a square that you think are safe.
  • Uses the same color values from the Win32 version.
  • Custom minefield settings.
  • Ability to highlight the neighbors of a square (for people with bad eyes like myself)
  • Option to show a safe square for that first move.
  • Keeps track of your best time for each of the difficulty levels.
  • FREE! (well, technically, donation-ware with a nag screen that you can dismiss permanently without paying)
.:Requirements:.
Mac OS X 10.3 or better.

.:History:.
[08 Sep 2008 - v1.47c]
Another update for the French translation, courtesy of Yann Ricquebourg. You guys on that side of the pond better appreciate his efforts.

[16 Nov 2007 - v1.47b]
French translation updated again, courtesy of Yann Ricquebourg.
Minor cosmetic bug fixes.

[16 Nov 2007 - v1.47a]
Fixed the French translation so that all the characters properly display.

[07 Nov 2007 - v1.47]
Fixed a bug that could break the high scores table (it occurred if you started a new game while the sheet saying you made it into the top ten was being displayed).

[12 Dec 2006 - v1.46]
Added a French localization, courtesy of Yann Ricquebourg and Max of McSebi Software (which means that Mine Swept can now be easily localized to other languages).
Middle button now acts like a double-click.

[29 Sept 2006 - v1.45]
Forgot to flip the switch to make Mine Swept a Universal Binary so yeah, for all you Mac-Intel owning fans, Mine Swept should no longer run under Rosetta.
Player is now prevented from flagging more mines than are listed as being hidden (i.e., no more -1 mines left on the field).

[03 August 2006 - v1.44]
Implemented user suggestion: added option to toggle the use of the question mark for flagging squares.

[31 July 2006 - v1.43]
Implemented user suggestion: added Cmd-Z to undo a mine being revealed with an option to toggle this behavior on or off via the Preferences panel.

[04 April 2006 - v1.42]
Adjusted online check to be performed once a week instead of every time the game is launched.

[17 Feb 2006 - v1.41]
Fixed: The score would not be recorded to the correct difficulty level sometimes.
Made the interface for specifying custom images and sounds much easier to use.
Window position is now properly saved when switching between tile sets that are different sizes.
Added menu item for showing where the mines are hidden.
Added an online check to see if there's an updated version of the game available as well as providing a menu item to perform the check manually.
More minor tweaks and fixes.

[11 Jan 2006 - v1.4]
Folders for both custom images and sounds can now be specified for the game to use.
Removed the preference item for setting the tile size (since it was redundant with the added feature of specifying which folder to use images for the game from).
Removed the limits on the maximum size of the playing grid since they were really based on my monitor size. If you want to play on a 100 x 100 playing field, go right ahead.
Window position is now saved between launches.
Added menu items that go to my website, my donations page, and opens your mail client to send me an e-mail.
Minor tweaks and fixes.

[13 Sep 2005 - v1.3]
Rewrote the code that handled keeping track of the high scores so that it can now record the name and date of the best times for each difficulty level.
Added icons for mines that were incorrectly marked and the mine that was revealed (thereby ending the game).
Broke 10.2 compatibility. If enough people running 10.2 e-mail me (or heck, even donate money), I'll go back and fix 10.2 compatibility.

[21 July 2004 - v1.2]
Forgot to update the help file.
Added the command key (in addition to the control key) as a modifier for clicking on squares to flag them as a mine.
Added 10.2 compatibility.

[20 July 2004 - v1.1]
Added 32x32 and 44x44 pixel sized tiles.

[1 July 2004 - v1.01]
Text message now displayed when the game is paused.

[21 June 2004 - v1.0]
Initial release.
